The St Thomas worm farm is alive and thriving, and the worms are now being fed scraps several times a week. While this is good news, there is a problem. Classes have mostly been very good when it comes to sorting their waste however, there is too much! Our worm farm has been set up for just over a month and we don’t want to overfeed the worms. While normally, the worms could eat most of the scraps people have started throwing out uneaten fruit and vegetables. When emptying the bins the Environment Team has been finding whole apples, punnets of perfectly good strawberries and untouched bananas. We can’t feed this much to the worms and as a result this food is being thrown out.
Please remind your child/ren about food wastage.
