Last week, David Ella came to St Thomas to speak with Yr 3 students to help us with our History Unit on Indigenous Australians. Mr Ella is an Indigenous Education Officer in the Diocese of Broken Bay. He used to be a teacher, and now teaches people about the Indigenous culture. Everyone in Yr 3 prepared questions to ask him and he shared stories about his life to answer our questions. We learnt about:
- The racism Mr Ella has experienced
- His totem (The Sea Turtle)
- His favourite Dream Time story (Tiddalick the Frog)
- What his life was like growing up
- His family traditions
Year three students were all very grateful for David Ella coming in to share his Aboriginal culture with us.
